        Connector Newsletter November 2022

Message from the Chair/CEO, Julia Demkowski CMC®

AND WE’RE OFF!

We are 18 days away from our 2022 National IMC USA Conference! If you have not registered, there is still time. You do not want to miss the outstanding key notes, breakout sessions, or meeting our wonderful conference sponsors this year! I cannot believe it has been 3 years since we met in person for our Consult-Con.

Have you been thinking about certification but not finding the time to gather the information needed for your application? Have you investigated the WHAT and the HOW but not really convinced on the WHY of getting your certification? I encourage you to look at the benefits provided by your certification, and the process for submitting your application on the IMC USA website. You will find everything you need here: Benefits and Process (imcusa.org)

If you are still kicking the idea around, I encourage you to attend these two programs at this year’s conference:

  • Friday, 11/18, 3:00 – 4:45PM:  Loraine Huchler and David Norman will team up to present CMC: What, Why and How – An experiential workshop on the three ‘biggies’ of the CMC – What it is, Why you should seriously consider it, and, finally, How you attain it. This interactive session will include both added information on the CMC (derived from ICMCI’s changes) and a new way of looking at it from the market perspective. This presentation is sure to motivate you to move certification to the top of your list!
  • Sunday, 11/20, 9:00-10:15AM: David Norman will present on Consulting Tips and Traps– It’s Not the What, But How You Consult. This lively session is designed to help you think differently, break some norms, and develop a practice that is differentiated and distinguished. The presentation will encourage you to think differently about how you consult and how you can differentiate yourself from other consultants.

Why should certification be at the top of your to-do list?

Having the CMC® after your name communicates that you are a seriously accomplished consultant. It highlights you as a professional consultant who was willing to go that extra to stand out from the rest.

Our certified members receive points for attending the conference that can be applied toward the CMC® triennial recertification requirements for their continuing professional development plan. We also provide an opportunity to pick up those required ethics points. Juan Negroni will lead this session:

  • Friday, 11/18, 1:00 – 2:30 PM:  Ethics in Management Consulting: Fantasy or Reality? Among the issues to be addressed in this 90-minute interactive session are:
    • Will ethics in future workplaces grow in importance?
    • Is doing what one has the right to do always ethical?
    • What is the best definition of ethical practices?
    • Can ethics be culturally situational?

One last invitation! Your 2022 National Board of Directors ask you to consider sharing your skills with IMC USA. We have been working to create an environment to attract more volunteers for local and national participation. If you have been thinking about getting involved, please accept this invite to join us at the IMC USA Leadership Meeting on Friday, November 18th from 8 a.m. – 12:00 pm. We will present our 2023 plan and update you on many projects currently underway. Please message Gregory Brooks at [email protected] to find out more information on volunteering or to let us know you would like to serve on a sprint team of a particular interest.

The conference will be full of information and packed with excitement, especially since we have not been together in so long! So, pack your bags and travel safe! I look forward to seeing you all in Louisville!

As always, we welcome hearing from you.

IMC USA Foundation

Your not-for-profit foundation continues to work on your behalf by improving management consulting. Your 501(c)3 was established about a decade ago to create awareness of the value of ethics and professionalism in consultants.  Most recently we announced the availability of scholarships to attend Consult-Con in November and two of your fellow student members are thankful for the opportunity, provided by you, to be with and learn from their new professional peers. The Foundation needs your help to continue enhancing your profession. Yes, this is an ask. We can’t improve without participation. There are many ways to give (tax deductible, of course), simply go to your IMCUSA account on the website, and navigate to the Foundation page and click on Donate. It is that easy to make a difference.

You can help by going to https://www.imcusa.org/foundation and making a tax-deductible contribution to raise the level of awareness of ethics in consulting and to equip professionals to practice management consulting with the highest ethics and professionalism.
