The Essence of Ethics: A Guiding Light in a Complex WorldEthics, the moral compass that guides human behavior, is a fundamental aspect of our lives. It serves as the North Star that helps us navigate the complex terrain of choices and actions. In a world filled with diverse perspectives and interests, ethics provides a shared framework for determining what is right and just. This short article delves into the essence of ethics and its profound significance in our daily lives. Defining Ethics At its core, ethics is the study of what is morally right and wrong. It goes beyond mere rules and laws, delving into the realm of values, principles, and virtues. Ethics asks us to ponder questions like, "What should I do?" and "How should I behave?" It encourages us to consider not only the consequences of our actions but also the intentions behind them. Key Principles of Ethics
Ethics in Everyday Life Ethics is not confined to philosophical debates or moral dilemmas presented in textbooks. It plays a pivotal role in our everyday lives, influencing our personal relationships, professional conduct, and societal interactions.
Ethics is not a rigid set of rules but a dynamic and evolving framework that adapts to the changing needs of society. It's a reminder that our actions have consequences, not just for ourselves but for those around us. By embracing ethical principles, we can strive to create a more just, compassionate, and harmonious world, where our choices align with our values and reflect the best of human nature. As we navigate the complexities of life, let ethics be our guiding light, illuminating the path toward a brighter future for all.

IMC USA Honors Passed MembersIt is with sadness that IMC USA shares the news of the passing of two of the organization's members. Patricia "Pat" Lorraine Schumaker, MBA, CMC, PMP, an IMC USA member since 1994, suddenly passed on August 14, 2023. Her work as a business consultant and an accountant included a meticulous attention to detail that made her a standout professional. She was proud to be a Certified Management Consultant, earning her certification in 2002. Pat was a leader for women in her academic pursuits. Her education includes a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering, both from The Ohio State University. Her passion for numbers and her commitment to her career led her to the University of Michigan where she earned her MBA, again a notable achievement for a time when there were very few women in the program. Pat's career began at Arthur Andersen in Detroit, where she worked for many years until 1985, when she joined her husband's consulting business. View Pat's full obituary here. Michael E. Cohen CMC, MBA, who joined IMC USA in 1988, also recently passed. Mr. Cohen previously served as President, Executive Vice President, and Vice President of programs of IMC NCR. He taught courses in project management and proposal writing for the IMC. Mr. Cohen worked for over 30 years in management consulting for Federal, State and local government agencies, and private organizations. He directed more than 80 engagements in health, environmental, education, logistics, finance, and general government programs.
IMC USA sends condolences to the family and friends of Pat Schumaker and Michael Cohen. Their legacies will live on in the organization.
