David Norman has served organizations for 49 years as inside leadership and outside advisory resource.  His expertise is in creating enduring organizations with change-oriented leadership which adapts in a volatile, changing business landscape.  He has successfully worked with executives on a path from start-up, to success and on to significance.

David Norman holds two certifications: the designation, “Certified Management Consultant® (CMC®),” from the Institute of Management Consultants, the only accrediting body requiring client references, evidence of successful engagements, and completion of a sitting examination on ethical behavior and practices.  Further, he has been recognized his peers for his contributions, including the FIMC (Fellow award, one of only 60 so awarded to management consultants in US) and the Academic Fellow, an international award for contributions to university studies (first ever awarded to US-based consultant).

After twenty-two years in management consulting firms, Norman founded his own consulting firm, Traction Matters/David Norman & Associates, in 1995 to offer results-oriented services to small and mid-sized companies, non-profit organizations, and governmental agencies.

In his career, Norman has over forty-nine years’ experience consulting and fourteen years’ experience as executive coaching with the owners/executives of a wide variety of for-profit clients, not-for-profits and non-governmental entities. Norman has served as Interim Executive Director at three not-for-profits guaranteeing their continuation and assisting them to adapt to change.  

Norman served on the Institute of Management Consulting USA (IMC USA) Carolinas Chapter Board, the National Board of Directors and served as CEO and Chairman of the Board 2011-13), leading a national membership organization into increased liquidity. Currently, he is Chair of the Board of IMC USA Foundation, a national 501(c)3 which fosters ethics education and is past-(Founding) Chair and CEO of the Board of Lost Province Center for Cultural Arts, an Ashe County based 501(c)3 organization in Ashe County, NC.  After selling his executive coaching practice, he, semi-retired, and his wife, Louise, retired, live on their lavender farm in the county, near Lansing, NC.
